The following project was approved during the 2011 Board of Director’s meeting on October 1, 2011: rushessay.com

RV Mobile Medical Clinic & Disaster Unit: This project will cost $39,000 to complete funding. VWAM has purchased the MMU, and the remaining funds will be used for repairs, equipping, painting, shipping, training, and one year of operational support. The unit is already configured to provide charity health examinations and other services such as dental and eye care! Additional renovations and minor repairs to the interior of the unit, as well as outside of the RV, are being done this December 2011 and purchase may take place the following month (January 2012) dependent upon funds being raised. This RV Mobile Medical Clinic Unit is being offered to VWAM at a significant discount, and even though it is a prior-owned RV, it is in great condition.

This RV is in Charleston, SC at a health center. VWAM will be requesting assistance from two SC Senators (Graham & DeMint) and Congressman Tim Scott to have it flown out of Charleston AFB to Okinawa or Guam. There it would be transported by a LPH (Small aircraft carrier type with helicopters & Marines) that is taking humanitarian teams of US military and civilian medical/health professionals to Da Nang in 2012 and again in 2013.

VWAM will not have to pay any VAT, taxes, or import fees to bring this unit into Vietnam since this is for charity use in providing medical/health services by an official NGO (Non-governmental organization - VWAM) recognized by the Vietnamese government. This is what the Vietnamese authorities have stated todate.

The unit would have the advantage of being able to go to rural locations where medical/health needs are not being addressed or available at this time. In addition, this mobile medical unit would respond to disasters such as floods and typhoons. VWAM humanitarian medical teams will use it regularly, and Church With A Mission and SOMEDCO (Social and Medical Committee of the Evangelical Church – South) will also have use of this specially outfitted RV. It will be the first of its kind in all of Vietnam!
