One more thing about Harold Paul Godman's letters: he also mentions Operation Hastings.

Looking to hear from anybody that served with Harold Paul Godman, USMC, 1965 to 1967. I collect war letters, and i just bought the letters he wrote home to his family during Vietnam. Godman was with the 1st Marines. His letters mention he was involved with Operation Washington.
Some very interesting content in his letters.

I was too young by about four years to participate in the war, but as a youngster I knew some who did, including my uncle, Fred S. Taft, who had also served in Korea and WWII, and friends of the family. I dreamed of being a helicopter door gunner, even though a Marine friend said the life expectancy in the air was short, talking minutes, but I was undaunted. I graduated in 1975, a fateful year for Vietnam, and look back on the war now as something that neverthless touched me, if not directly. I was part of the culture, as were all who lived in the US of A at the time. God bless our vets!

A battery 377th Arty.(AVN) 101 ABN DIV in 70'-71'.
I would like to contact the family of CW2 Gordon Lee Wirth. He lived in the Portland, OR. area before he went into the Army. He was hit by ground fire on 1/9/71 while flying an OH-6A. A reply should include the name "Lee Wirth" so that I will open it.

Was a medic with 2nd plt and our Lt was Fred Brown. Lost alot of good buddies during that short time with B Co, we also located one of the Biggest Weapons Caches of the war in June of 68! After capturing a lone NVA soldier and some persuasion he led us right to it! Keep up the Good Wrk. Thanks, Jeff B.

I was in Nam 1964 and 1969-70, Many times I have thought of the people I knew there and wonder what has happen to them. Last station was Cam Rahn in 12 TFW R&R, Went to T/A when the F4s left, I was a F100 Crew Chief and they say I was needed there. Stayed in the AF, retired 1985 Msgt.
This Memorial Day I am sending this to let all know how proud I was to serve and proud of our nations service men and women in action today.

SOME GAVE ALL

I knew a man called him Sandy Kane
Few folks even knew his name
But a hero -- was he
He left a boy, came back a man
Still many just don't understand
About the reasons -- we are free

I can't forget the look in his eyes
Or -- the tears he cries
As he said these words to me

All gave some and some gave all

And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties -- and recall

Some gave all

Now Sandy Kane is no longer here
But his words are oh so clear
As they echo through out our land
For all his friends who gave us all
Who stood the ground and took the fall
To help their fellow man

Love your country and live with pride
And don't forget -- those who died
America can't you see

All gave some and some gave all

And some stood through for the red, white and blue
And some had to fall
And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties -- and recall

Some gave all

And if you ever think of me
Think of all your liberties and recall, yes recall

Some gave all
Some gave all

What a wonderful site. Albeit, a site among so many on the internet that it has taken me years, or at least months to happen upon it. Still, it is a great thing where so many can reflect on Vietnam, their units, their bases and their friends so long ago left behind. I have searched the sites forever it seems just looking for a name of anybody I knew there in 65-66, 68-69, have never found one. Like time simply have swallowed them up to absolute obscurity. Shame - and so sad, such great people they were. My prayers to them all - they will never be forgotten. Oh, one more thing, I did find many names of those I knew on the "Vietnam Virtual Wall" I recommend all Vets to visit that internet site. It is humbling.
