I am looking for anyone who may remember my Dad, Fred Monroe Ayers. He did a tour in April 70 to June of 71. He has blocked out a lot of memories and is now finally trying to recover and come home!! What I do know is that he flew in to Cuchi (near Ho Chin Minh City) and went North toward Cambodia or Laos. He was injured in a tank explosion and was taken to Danang. When he recovered he was 2nd Security MP.
My Dads memories of what happened are detailed, but he can not remember dates and names. He feels like he is the only one that can not remember names of the men he fought beside. PLEASE help him remember. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has information on a young man nicknamed "Toad" serving about the same time, please email with any info, pictures or suggestions on how I can be of support to my Dad. God Bless all of our Service men and women and Thank you!

I served in Vietnam May 65 till may 66. I was stationed at Nha Trang with the 6253rd CAMRON O-1E aircraft. (FAC). I was sent to Danang in August of 65 til November 65 then went to Hue and spent time up at Dong Ha. Left Dong Ha and Hue in April 66 and was sent back to Nha Trang. I flew in the back seat of the O-1E along with the pilot on observation and air strike missions with the code name of Birdog. Flew several times across the border into Laos under the code name Hounddog. I didn't envie the flights over Laos. We kept tabs on the MACV-SOG Teams on the ground there until we were replaced with what is called Covey. Wrote a book called DEROS NEVER that can be ordered at any book store in the country. Aslo have a web sight at atlasbooks.com where you can go in and read a chapter of my book and also order it if you want. Thomas LaRoe

I am a university professor in Minnesota, working on research for an article or book about the last year of US military activity in the Indochina Conflict. I am working from the thesis that it is important for people to understand reasons why people continued to enter the conflict in 1972, although Nixon and others talked about peace with honor and Vietnamization instead of military victory. I would appreciate e-mail contacts from anyone willing to have their responses published. If you entered the Indochina Conflict between January 1972 and August 1973, I would like to know:
1. Why did you go, especially considering that the majority of the country thought the war was a mistake by 1972?
2. How was the morale for you and your comrades in the context of public opinion at home and the massive troop withdrawals of 1972 and 1973?
3. How did your family and friends and others respond to your decision to fight in Indochina in 1972/3?
You are by no means restricted to responding solely to those questions. I welcome additional comments/recollections you have to share. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you very much.
