Good website. You all have done a lot of work on it. Some of the pictures bring back memories. I came over in Aug '65 with the Army as a member of Task Force Alpha's Chemical Section. After we landed at Nha Trang the Section found out that just after we left Fort Hood Texas, they received a telegram telling them to keep the Chemical Section in Texas. So it goes. I guess the Army didn't want us used as a propaganda subject to claim we were preparing for "unconventional warfare"
The seven of us were loaded onto the first aircraft to Sai gon and assigned to HQ & HQ Co. USARV on Tan Son Nhut Airbase. Here I spent my last 9 months in the Army. Since my only MOS was a CBR Staff Specialist, there were only so many things they could have me do. The NCO's all had Infantry training so could act as door gunners. I became a chauffer, courier, gofer, draftsman and general flunky.
I guess my only achievement was that I qualified for the good driving award - drove in excess of 10,000 miles on the streets of Sai gon and Ton Son Nhut with no accidents. Plenty of close calls (6" or less), averaging about 1 per day. In an area where the natives were known for trying to get hit so that they could get a cash settlement fron the military.
I did get to tour around town though. It was a pretty place at least while I was there

I served as Assistant Opns Officer in Danang (1966), short pass through in Dong Ha after leaving Chiang Kham, Thailand as OIC of Seabee Team 1109 (1967), Thailand, and as Assistant D Company Cmdr and then Special Roadwork Officer in A Co. in Quang Tri (1968), Vietnam. I designed the III MAF R&R Center at China Beach, Danang East, Vietnam during the summer of 1966. Our battalion constructed the infrastructure including the 480-man amphitheater, living quarters, library, chapel, showers, etc. A nice place. Please check out our MCB-11 Association WebSite. Type MCB-11 in google block and enter the site. Lists our members and gives a brief history of the 11th Naval Construction Battalion of WW II fame (1942-1945) and Naval Mobile Construction Battalion ELEVEN from 1953-1969. It includes our tours in Vietnam from 1965 through December 1969 when the battalion was decommissioned. Our battalion will be recommissioned in Gulfport, MS, on 14 Sept 2007. Hope to see you there. Air Force - Cam Rahn Bay - October 1968-1969 - Worked on flight line F-4 Phamtom. Send me an email if you were there. Vietnam was a great experience, a waste of good American life. A war with no cause, no benefit to the USA, our country leadership should have been tried for war crimes. Can you relate to our forces in Iraq, support those braves Americans. Give them the recognition we never recevied. Remember the living, remember the departed for thier sacrifices.
Also stationed at George AFB, CA, and Shaw AFB SC.

Looking for someone who served with Veotis Henderson in Vietnam from 8/4/72 until 5/31/73. He was in CoG 2/9 3dMarDiv, FMF. If "jungle" spelled in a certain way means something to you, we need your help! Veotis passed Aug 06 from liver cancer caused by Agent Orange Exposure, having a hard time proving he served in Vietnam. No records show that he actually fought there. VA will not pay compensation or pension.
