I was in-country from January 1971 to October 1972. First six months assigned to HDQ, 3/17 Air Cav - Phu Loi, then with Red Carpet at Long Bien and for the last nine months of my tour I was assigned to the CORDS HDQ, Bien Hoa, as Pilot for Colonel Webb, Senior Military Advisor for III Corps. I would welcome communication from anyone who happened to be in III Corps during the same time frame. Perhaps our paths have crossed. I have not returned to RVN since then but I do plan to do so sometime in the very near future... not so much to visit a particular battle area but to view the region as a whole. I am interested to see how the people are living now, how much the landscape has changed and to re-experience the beauty of this region. If anyone has been back to this area recently I would appreciate hearing about your trip and what your observations were. To our memories we owe it to ourselves, never to forget how important this period in our life was. Ranger 6 out.

I have read over this website. This is a great mission for who was in my country, Viet Nam. I was born in 1966, 9 years later I have a chance to live in a terrible society of communists. Wow so terrible, more terrible than the period of 1966 to 1972. I landed to US soil in 1994 with my father who served in the re-education camp for more than 6 years and 5 years later I graduated B.S at UC Berkeley. I do not know how to say about the past that was good or bad. I remembered the rockets flew over my head. It was scare, but after that it was a memory because there is few people saw them in reality. Wow. Thank you for all who served for freedom of my country.

This is in response to a note posted by Bryan Shively regarding his uncle, Dennis Shively, who was killed 24 March 1968. I was unable to reach him by way of the email address he posted. I was on the patrol with his uncle that day he was killed. I have photos of his uncle and the location where we were in Quang Nam Province. I would like to share these with Bryan and his family.

My father, ret LTC Donald H. Threlkeld, served as an advisor to the 9th ARVN Division in 1968-1969, MACV, Team 60, reporting to General Tran Ba Di in the Mekong Delta region. On July 17, 2006 my father passed away from multiple illnesses some of which were the result of exposure to agent orange. Dad never complained about his diseases and held strong to spreading freedom throughout the world. He was a solid Christian, great soldier, best father and friend a son could ever have. He always spoke highly of the soldiers he served with in Vietnam. He often wondered what had happened to many of them. I was able to find General Tran Ba Di since my father's death through one of the officers of the 9th ARVN Div. General Di is alive and well and with his family after many years of separation from them. I am trying to find out as much information as I can about my father and his tour of duty in Vietnam. If you served with my father or knew him I would love to hear from you and can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org Thank you for serving such a great cause. God Bless you and as my father always told me, "Keep the Faith" .

There's going to be a reunion in St. Louis in July,07 for all men who ever served in Dak To. All units and any year are invited. This is the 5th reunion of the Brotherhood of Dak To Defenders and the first time we've opened it up to everyone. I don't need to say too much about Dak To, anyone who served there knows what I mean. The Vietnamese call it 'The Valley of Screaming Souls'.
If you're interested in the reunion just let me know and I'll get the details to you.
I was a medic with the 299th Combat Engineers and was there for the seige of '69.
